First Day Last Show

Made a habit of watching the popular films first day last show.

The film should ideally be named Doom:2. This film was one of the most hyped and anticipated film to have released in recent times. However, this has led all of its fans down.

Dhoom:2 boasts of such a wonderful star cast with an assembly of wonderful stars who have proved their acting prowess in recent films. However, the scope for acting in this film is very limited with style, stunts being the main attraction. No doubt the film is very stylised and has great stunts.... but thats about all, the wonderful stunts have not been complemented by loads of action. Clearly the film falls short in the action department.

D:2 has a few great characters, like the super suave thief Hrithik, but Abhishek, I feel has been a letdown. He has forgotten all his expressions in trying to look raw, he has overdone the angry expression. Bips and Ash only look good. Ash still has an involvement in the film, Bips is a waste!! However, the film falls miserably in the scripting department, viewers cannot be taken for a ride with only stupid stunts that pops in anywhere in the film. Anything is happening anytime in the film... be it stunts or songs. Talking about songs, there are not enough good numbers in the film like the first one!! The comedy is missing in this which was a strength in the earlier film.. with only Uday providing some comic relief.

So, all in all, this film will be rated as a bad film. Still, I believe with the wonderful opening this film has received based on its strong distribution and strong starring, will still fetch in money. This film sustantiates the fact that sequels are never as good as the original one.

First Day Last Show

Yesss.. I have done it again. I am back.. this time with a new film I just saw 'First Day Last Show'.

The film is Don, stars Shahrukh, Priyanka, Arjun, Boman, . . . Now, since this is a remake of a film with the same name, comparison is bound to happen, especially when the earlier film had the greatest Indian actor of all times, Amitabh Bachchan; and the recent one has the current Badshah of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan.

Let me speak up frankly... Shahrukh is not able to match the talent or the flexibility Big B enjoys, he is not suitable for a role such as this. Never in his film does he looks menacing enough as a don should be, and at times I really felt that it was a waste of time and money to see this film so early after its release. But, I had to write this article..........

However, speaking of the story, this has a few twists and turns which makes the film pretty interesting as the film rolls. The story starts with the same way as the original Don started, followed the same traded path and somehow managed to grip the audience with the interesting story-telling. The fans of the original Don will admit how thrilling even the old Don was... the name of the characters have been left same, Don, Vijay, Roma, Jasjit, Narang, Malik so that we can identify the characters. The tale, however has a twist in the tail which is quite hatke and all the characters do not meet the same fate as the original.

So, for all SRK fans, you may see the film as its him all the way in the film.. though personally I felt he is not upto the mark as a don!! This film's got style, sleek action (though not enough!), same legendary dialogue: 'Don ko pakarna mushkil hi nahin, namumkin hai' minus the booming voice Big B possesses.

In the end, dont let my writing affect you, see the film by yourself and judge by yourself. Its ofcourse a one time film. Cheers...

First day last Show
I am just back after seeing the first day, last show of the film Lage Raho Munnabhai... and I got so smitten by the wonderful storytelling, that I thought of writing some of my thoughts about the film.

Yes... our very own, darling, sweetheart, streetsmart, tapori Munnabhai is back in the new film, this time as a history professor. Everyone has adored him in his earlier flick, Munnabhai M.B.B.S., but this film, let me tell you... is going to be equal, if not bigger, to its prequel. A Hollywood film is supposed to be made from the earlier film, then God knows what we can expect from the current release.

I am well informed that 'Munnabhai Meets Mahatma' was supposed to be the name of the latest release, but was replaced by a more cheesy 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'. And the way Gandhiji's ideologies have been depicted in the film through a crook is awesome. If we had Jadoo ki Jhappi in the earlier flick, then we have Gandhiji (and his ideologies) in this film. You see... comparisons between these two cult films are obvious. Both the films try to pass on a message at the end... Munna turned out to be a Godly doctor in the end of the earlier release even when he supposedly hadn't passed std X, how he did that is history; here he turned out to be the best professor... can you believe it; that he is a professor was initially a galti se mistake to impress his lady love, in the beginning of the film. And you know what he taught? stressing on the ideologies and leading life the Gandhian way.

Gandhiism will definitely get a new zeal of life through this film. Like his famous feeling uttered by Munna has done wonders... 'Gandhiji need not be there as statues in parks or the crossing of roads, need not be there in photo frames, or in the notes... but should find space in peoples's heart'. His sentiments are no longer accepted in the modern world... but Munna fights a modern battle in his Satyagraha way.

I would write nothing more... everybody should go and see the film by themselves. Lage raho Munnabhai... and give us more movies like this. Cheers......

United we Stand...
"Think about it, if you're giving your Class XII exams or trying for a masters in JNU, 50 per cent of all the seats are reserved. Let's start a campaign against this insanity" - A Statement made by a student of a leading College, stung by the latest bug of reservation.

The Central government has decided to introduce 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in 20 Central Universities across the country. This is in addition to the current 22.5 per cent reservation for SC & STs. In the name of social-justice and equalisation, the politicians have capitalised on a huge vote bank by pushing for reservations. We know everything, so there is no need to restress on the known fact - the host of problems that this quota system may bring into our system; there is no need to mention the facts that have been written, & read, umpteen number of times till now.

Come, make your presence felt & unite against the politicizing of education ... vote against the amendment of reservation. Its just an interface to make your voice heard our P.M. and President, PLEASE LET US MAKE GOOD USE OF IT...... not only for this issue, but issues henceforth as well.

IS A FRIEND INDEED
A few days back, I quit my job in Mumbai... the reasons were simple but many. I had a oppurtunity to come back to Kolkata and this job is in a MNC in the truest sense. And of course, the hike of payment is always there. However, the most important reason was that my profile matched the job profile.

Well, let me tell you, it was not easy... to come back leaving the wonderful friends I had made in Mumbai. Very frankly, I would always cherish working with the colleagues, turned friends, rather than working for the company. My previous company did not offer me much, and as you understood... not even the correct profile I wanted to work with. But, the friends had always made me feel good, we had loads of fun. I have seen friends getting married, get a new house with their own money, switch jobs... getting through all the good and bad things in life in these few months I stayed in Mumbai.

For all these reasons, I am thinking of dedicating this writing for my friends. From now on, I sincerely hope that those of my friends who are "unhappy" with the quality of work they are doing... get a change; just as my luck clicked, let others' luck click as well and they head for greener pastures.

If I am lucky, I surely will meet all my friends in future and never be out of touch. And I just hope my friends feel the same way about me.
